Meet the Newest Member of Team Fleetio: Jorge Valdivia

We are delighted to introduce Jorge Valdivia, our newest addition to the Fleetio team. He joins us in the role of Senior Software Engineer and is already hard at work building awesome Fleetio features. We subjected Jorge to a quick Q&A sesssion so you can get to know our new pal.

Question 1: Hey Jorge, can you give us your story?

Jorge: I'm originally from Tyler, Texas, and I still live in the area. My parents are both originally from Mexico and that has a huge impact on my life. We (my parents and my two sisters) try to immerse ourselves completely in Mexican culture, while still absorbing as much American culture as possible. I try to travel to Mexico as much as I can to keep up with everything, but many people will tell you the real reason is to visit my awesome girlfriend, Perla, who is currently studying her master's degree there.

I have a B.S. in computer science from the University of Texas at Tyler, where I also minored in psychology. Creating great software is definitely my number one passion, but I absolutely love learning about human psychology and I try to keep it with it as much as I can. My favorite area to study is language development. Being bilingual since I can remember, I've always had a deep interest in how we perceive and learn language.

Question 2: What are Your Hobbies and Interests?

Jorge: My main three hobbies are coding, playing the guitar (poorly), and riding my motorcycle.

I love coding because of the mental challenge and eventual satisfaction that comes from creating even the simplest app. This feeling is only magnified when working on larger products such as Fleetio.

I haven't a musical bone in my body, but playing the guitar soothes me, especially after a long day of work. I like to just sit back, relax, and strum some tunes while contemplating long day's worth of thoughts and challenges.

One of my newer hobbies revolves around my motorcycle. I love taking it out and riding to no destination in particular. You really get a good feeling of your surroundings, much more than a car, and it can really makes you appreciate the landscape you drive by every day, but never pay mind to.

Question 3: What made you want to work at Fleetio?

Jorge: Two things attracted me to Fleetio: the product and the team. I've always wanted to work on a product that solves a problem and that people love to use. Once I saw what Fleetio could do, and how the customers absolutely love it, I was sold.

Please join us in welcoming Jorge!
