What is a commercial vehicle?

A commercial vehicle is a vehicle designated "commercial" when it is titled or registered to a company. Commercial vehicles may include company cars, fleet vehicles, or other vehicles used for commercial purposes.

What are the classes of commercial vehicles?

Class 1 is the smallest commercial vehicle and includes light-duty trucks or vans that weigh up to 6,000 pounds.

Class 2 commercial vehicles are standard full-size pickup trucks (Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Chevy Silverado) that weigh between 6,001-10,000 pounds.

Class 3 commercial vehicles weigh between 10,001-14,000 pounds.

Class 4 commercial vehicles weigh between 14,001-16,000 pounds.

Class 5 commercial vehicles weigh between 16,001-19,500 pounds.

Class 6 commercial vehicles weigh between 19,501-26,000 pounds.

Class 7 commercial vehicles weigh between 26,001-33,000 pounds.

Class 8 commercial vehicles such as semi-trucks that weigh over 33,001 pounds.

Class 9 commercial vehicles are special, heavy-duty vehicles used for mining and other demanding activities.
